Design tool calculates mass timber grids

Fast + Epp Structural Engineers has introduced its Timber Bay Design Tool for architects, designers, developers and builders who may be interested in exploring mass timber for their next project.

Developed by the firm’s in-house parametric design team, the tool provides member sizes, volume outputs and three-dimensional (3-D) visualizations of mass timber grids.

Calculations are performed in a background script to size up the deck, purlins, girders and columns before they are displayed in 3-D. A bay data output table displays all of the results, along with structural depth and material takeoffs.
