The module uses UVGI technology.

EHC Global, based in Oshawa, Ont., has ramped up commercial production and availability of its compact LED UV-C handrail sterilization module for escalators and moving walkways.

Introduced to industry partners in 2018, the product was developed in response to growing demand for enhanced cleanliness, antimicrobial protection and disinfection for high-use rubber and thermoplastic polyurethane handrails in airports, hospitals, public transit stations, shopping malls, convention centres, office buildings and sports venues. It uses ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) against bacteria and viruses. When properly installed, it will not compromise the handrail’s structural integrity.

The module is mounted internally, so as to prevent the risks and costs associated with entrapment of fingers and clothing, impact damage, vandalism, theft, unnecessary downtime and obstruction of ingress and egress.
