Consulting Engineers of B.C. announced the winners of their annual awards at a gala event on Saturday, March 5. The event was held at the Westin Bayshore Resort and Marina, as a finale to Engineering and Geoscience Week.
The project that won the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Engineering Excellence and an Award of Excellence was the Sea To Sky Test Section by Associated Engineering (BC) Ltd., with Golder Associates. Congratulations.
Five other Awards of Excellence were given, to the following:
 IBI Group, for the Cross Border Advanced Traveller Information System, Southbound Highway 99 and 15.
 Knight Piesold Ltd. (with Amnis Engineering), for the McNair Creek Hydroelectric Green Power project.
 Sandwell Engineering Inc. for the Seismic Upgrade of the Royal Columbian Hospital Health Care Centre.
 Urban Systems Ltd. for the Town of Golden Sewage Treatment and Disposal Upgrade.
 Urban Systems Ltd. (with Brybil Projects, Golder Associates, Sandwell Engineering and Northwest Hydraulic consultants) for the Yoho Bridge and approaches.
Awards of merit went to:
 Golder Associates for the David Avenue Connector Habitat Compensation.
 McElhanney Consulting Services for the Capilano Treetops Adventure.
 MCW Consultants, for the UBC Life Sciences Centre
 Sandwell Engineering for the Port of Long Beach, Pier G Upgrade
 Sandwell Engineering Services for Mill Equipment for Offsite Chipping.
 Stantec Consulting Ltd. (with Glotman Simpson Group, the RADA Group and Keen Engineering) for the B.C. Cancer Research Centre.
 Urban Systems Ltd., for the Duprez Ravine Stormwater Bypass.
For the fifth year, Consulting Enginers of B.C. presented a Meritorious Achievement Award to an individual engineer. Russell Fraser, P.Eng. won the award, which recognizes contributions to engineering, the consulting industry and the community.
Mr. Russell played an important role in the development of Terra, now part of Trow Associates. He was involved in the political arena and is very active in charitable pursuits, particularly for the CNIB.
