Catherine Karakatsanis, P.Eng., senior vice president and board member at Morrison Hershfield consulting engineers of Toronto has been made 90th President of Professional Engineers Ontario. She will lead the licensing body’s 71,500 members in 2009-2010. Ms. Karakatsanis is the fourth female president of PEO. Also, Pierre Gallant, B.Arch., a senior principal of Morrison Hershfield’s Vancouver office, has been appointed President of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia.

Levelton Consultants of Richmond, B.C. has announced three new associates: Darryl Furey, P.Eng., Chris Koscher, B.Sc., and Jay Rao, P.Eng. The company has also appointed Alex McGowan, P.Eng. as vice president of technical services.

MTE Consultants has appointed Denise Lacchin as its division manager responsible for environmental services in the Hamilton-Halton region of Ontario. With 17 years of experience in brownfield assessment and redevelopment projects, Ms. Lacchin will operate from the Burlington office.

Wendy Cooper, chief executive officer of Consulting Engineers of Alberta, was made an Honorary Member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) in April.

Debbie Hendsbee of Wardrop, a Tetra Tech Company, has been elected to the board of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. Ms. Hendsbee manages business strategy and development in the company’s mining division.

The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers elected a new president and chair on May 13. Annette Bergeron, P.Eng. MBA is currently a lecturer at Queen’s University School of Business in Kingston, Ontario. She was previously elected chair of OSPE in May 2004.
