Nils Voermann, P.Eng. won the Engineering Medal for Engineering Excellence in the Ontario Professional Engineers awards that were handed out on November 12. Voermann is global managing director of technologies with Hatch. As well, Anton Davies, P.Eng., vice-president of Rowan Williams Davies & Irwin, won the Engineering Medal for Management.

Jeremy Carkner, P.Eng. of Morrison Hershfield has won the 2012 Allen D. Williams Scholarship Award from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC). The award is presented to a young professional employee of an ACEC member firm. Carkner, based in Burlington, Ontario, is a principal and department manager at Morrison Hershfield.

TetraTech WEI has appointed Dan Meidl, P.Eng. of Calgary to the role of senior vice president for the company’s infrastructure and environmental division. He was previously vice-president of transportation for Tetra Tech WEI. 

Fred Leber, co-founder and chief executive officer of Leber/Rubes Inc. (LRI) in Toronto, has been appointed chair of the Underwriters Laboratories Canada (ULC) Committee on Fire Alarm and Life Safety Equipment and Systems. Leber takes over from Richard Morris who held the post of chair for the past 21 years.
