TECSULT, one of the largest consulting engineering companies in Quebec, has become part of AECOM Technology Corporation of Los Angeles. Based in Montreal, Tecsult has 1,100 employees in Quebec and 45 different countries.

Tecsult will retain its name and identity. It is intended to be Aecom’s global centre of expertise for hydroelectricity and dams.

In February, hard on the heels of its becoming part of Aecom, Tecsult acquired three engineering companies. One is Gemec, electrical, mechanical, building and civil consulting engineers based in Ville Saint Laurent, Quebec. Another is Alliance Environnement, an environmental consulting firm of 50 people based in Trois-Rivires, Quebec. Third, Tecsult acquired a controlling interest in the Peruvian energy firm PEPSA Proyectos Especiales Pacifico SA.

Aecom includes UMA of Burnaby, B. C., and it recently bought KMK Consultants and Gartner Lee of Ontario.

IRC Building Sciences Group of Mississauga, Ontario has acquired McCavour Engineering Limited, a 50-year old structural engineering company also based in Mississauga that has 17 employees.

GENIVAR Income Trust of Montreal has acquired Phoenix Engineering, a consulting firm of 40 employees specializing in wind power. Phoenix has offices in Calgary and Montreal.

Genivar has also bought RFA Consulting Electrical Engineers. Founded in 1974, the company has 30 employees based in Vancouver and Victoria, B. C.
