People changes at UMA and Associated Engineering

John Herbert, P.Eng. has joined UMA/AECOM as a director of the company’s national water and wastewater treatment division. Mr. Herbert has 35 years of experience in consulting engineering, including major project work in Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver, as well as in Singapore, Bangkok and Guang Zhou, China.<br>
“My priority is to rebuild UMA’s role in the water/wastewater treatment business,” Herbert says. “Our AECOM connection is an important part of our strategy. Our sister companies, Metcalf and Eddy and Maunsell, are highly respected in the water business worldwide.” Mr. Herbert is based in UMA’s Vancouver office.<br>
At Associated Engineering of Edmonton, Alistair Black has retired after 32 years with the company. Mr. Black is a past president and chief executive officer of Associated, being promoted to that position in 1996. Under his leadership the company grew from 25 staff to almost 600 in 13 offices across Canada.<br>
Associated Engineering has also formed a new company Associated Geosciences Ltd. in joint venture with IMC Group from the U.K. Associated Geosciences Ltd. or “AGL” will do projects in the mining and geosciences fields. Keith McCandlish, P.Geol. and Jim Henderson, P.Geoph have been appointed vice presidents of the company, which will operate out of Calgary and Burnaby, B.C. <br>
