Diane Freeman, P.Eng., an associate with Conestoga-Rovers & Associates — and a councillor for the City of Waterloo — was elected as the 91st president of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) on May 10.
On May 12, Jacques Lamarre O.C., former president and chief executive officer (retired) of SNC-Lavalin Group, was welcomed into Canada’s Order of the Business Hall of Fame. It is said to be the highest honour in Canadian business.
CH2M HILL had two successes in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers’ (AAEE) 2010 Environmental Engineering Awards, announced April 28. The company won for the Pine Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility in Calgary, and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County San Juan-Chama Drinking Water Plant.
Stantec has received an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for the development of an Engineered Wetland to treat de-icing fluid and polluted runoff at Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
GeoAdvice Engineering of Port Moody won the environmental technology award from the Ethno Business Council of British Columbia.  The Ethno BC awards were handed out May 12. They recognize the achievements of successful entrepreneurs who were born outside Canada and have been in business here for at least three years.
