A study by the Quebec Municipalities Union (Union des Municipalites du Quebec/ UMQ) has found that contrary to earlier reports, the construction of roads in the province of Quebec actually costs less than those in other provinces across Canada.
An earlier study by Transport Canada said that roads were 36% more expensive to build in Quebec, but the study by the UMQ found that in fact the cost was 2% less in Quebec.
UMQ explained the different finding on the grounds that the Transport Canada study had ignored costs such as bridges, drainage, terrain preparation, dynamiting, lighting, and fencing.
