Toronto’s Museum Subway station has been named one of the 10 most beautiful stations in the world by the Guardian newspaper in the U.K.

The station, which is close to the Royal Ontario Museum, is a moodily lit space with walls decorated in hieroglyph inscriptions and columns that are archaeologically inspired, load bearing figures from Canada’s First Nations and ancient cultures in Egypt, China, Greece and Mexico. The 45-year old station on the University line was redesigned in 2008 by Diamond Schmitt Architects.
