SAFETY
An Alberta consulting firm, Techna-West Engineering, won the international award of excellence and a small firm merit award in the Consulting Engineers of Alberta Showcase 2000 for a system that helps to save workers’ lives. The Fall Protection System combines guard rails, anchorage points, and horizontal and retractable lifelines to stop workers from falling when working at high elevations.
The system was developed in partnership with Surety Manufacturing and Testing which approached Techna-West in 1992. Since then the two Edmonton firms have collaborated on safety systems for railways and industrial projects throughout Canada and the U.S., including 40 projects for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.
