Construction workers in Ontario will be able to work in Quebec, and vice-versa, following the signing of an accord between the premiers of the two provinces.
For decades Ontario contractors were not allowed to bid on projects in Quebec. In 1999, Ontario fought back by excluding Quebec contractors.
The agreement signed in early June between Premiers Jean Charest and Dalton McGuinty would see the abolition in Ontario of Bill 17.
The Association of Quebec Construction (ACQ) hailed the decision because it will give them access to the Outaouais/Ottawa region market, estimated to be $2.5 billion a year.
