The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the U. K.’s Institute of Civil Engineers all signed an agreement on “Civil Engineering and Climate Change” at a conference held in St. John’s, Newfoundland in June. The document is “based on the belief that substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are required to reduce the risk of climate change.” It also says flooding and access to drinking water are affected, and outlines the role civil engineers should have in the solutions.
