AMEC is buying the assets and ongoing operations of Philips Engineering Ltd. of Burlington, west of Toronto in Ontario. Philips is a 70-person firm that specializes in highway and municipal engineering, structural engineering, water resources and land development. It was founded in 1946.

The acquisition is to build up AMEC’s Earth and Environmental division. A press release said: “Philips will provide AMEC with infrastructure capabilities in Eastern Canada at a time when the Canadian federal and Ontario governments have committed to substantial economic stimulus spending on infrastructure system upgrades, maintenance and asset management.”

AMEC’s Earth and Environmental division operates from 140 offices in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere.
