At a dinner held on May 31st in Waterloo, Ontario, Consulting Engineers of Ontario announced the winners of its awards program for outstanding engineering projects.
The winner of the top award, the Willis Chipman Award, was KMK Consultants Limited and Black & Veatch Corporation for their role in the Lakeview Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion.
The $250-million project is one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in Canada, serving the Region of Peel (Mississauga, Caledon and Brampton). The upgrade increased its capacity by one-third, from 336,000 cubic metres per day, to 448,000 cubic metres per day. The project required coordinating 10 construction contracts over three years while maintaining the plant’s operations. The plant now boasts the largest fluidized bed incineration capacity in Canada. KMK and Black and Veatch provided services on the detailed design for the expansion and upgrade, as well as tendering, contract administration and site inspection.
