Structural engineers Halsall Associates, with Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects, won the Jurors’ Favourite award at Canstruction 2007 in Toronto. Their sculpture was entitled “Taken Under Wing,” and featured a big mother hen (?) and nestlings.
Held in the first week of November at the Toronto Dominion Centre and Simcoe Place, the event attracted 16 teams of engineers and architects, as well as five student teams. They constructed sculptures using food cans and packaged food, which was later donated to the Daily Bread food Bank.
Another engineering firm among the winners was CH2M Hill, who created “Soak Up Hunger” and won in the Best Use of Labels Category. BA Consulting Group won in the Best Meal Category for “Clean Up Hunger.”
Canstruction events are held in cities across Canada and the United States every year.
