Teams of engineers and architects laboured late into the night for Canstruction in Toronto on May 27.

Aercoustics Engineering with Rebanks Pepper Littlewood Architects won the People’s Choice and Structural Ingenuity title for “This Loon Sure CAN Fish.”

Cannon Design won the Juror’s Favourite title with “Canpanion Planting: a Three Sisters’ Wampin Belt.”

AECOM won the Best Meal award with “Hunger, Just Like the Enemy, is not Welcome Here.” The Best use of Labels award went to BA Consulting for “A Queen’s Feast,” and an Honourable Mention went to Turner Fleisher Architects for CAN’t Let Hunger Slide.

The sculptures were built near the Design Exchange in the Toronto-Dominion Centre downtown. Canstruction is a fundraising event held across Canada which invites architecture and engineering firms to create sculptures and installations out of canned food. The food is then donated. In Toronto the event was organized by the Society for Design Administration Canada, Consulting Engineers of Ontario and the Design Exchange. The food goes to the Daily Food Bank.
