Construction has begun on an $84.3 million new city hall for Vaughan, the sprawling “city” north of Toronto that embraces Kleinberg, Woodbridge, Maple and Thornhill. <br>
Designed by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg architects, the new 276,700-s.f. building will be designed for LEED certification.<br>
It is being built at the site of the current civic centre at Major Mackenzie Drive and Keel Street. Consulting engineers are Halcrow-Yolles (structural), Stantec (mechanical), Mulvey + Banani (electrical) and Conestoga-Rovers (civil). the selected contractor is Maystar.<br>
The complex is to be a campus of low-rise buildings around a public square with a reflecting pool/skating rink.<br>
