Groundbreaking on a new sports facility to replace the University of Toronto’s Varsity Arena on Bloor Street West was held in December.
The new facilities include a 5,000 seat grandstand and state-of the-art artificial surface playing field, track and electronic scoreboard. Future building phases will include a four-storey building for teaching and training, and an air-supported bubble over the playing field.
Structural engineer is Halcrow-Yolles, electrical engineer is Mulvey & Banani, and mechanical engineer is MCW Consultants. The architect is Diamond & Schmitt, and general contractor is Ellis-Don.
The entire project is expected to cost $56 million.
