Toronto-based AMEC will play an important role in the restoration of Iraq following the award of work worth $154 million to Fluor Corporation. AMEC will act as prime subcontractor to Fluor.
The work involves restoring damaged power generation, transmission and distribution systems.
Fluor secured the work through its contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers, which will give orders worth up to $15 billion to Fluor over the next five years to service the U.S. Central Command areas of operation.
Fluor and AMEC are also bidding for contracts to be awarded by the Coalition Provisional Authority related to power, water treatment, transportation and other infrastructure.
