The Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada is holding its annual convention June 17-19 at the Grand Okanagan Resort Hotel, in Kelowna, B.C. The theme is “2001, the Odyssey Begins: a Vision of a Sustainable World.” The Keynote speaker is William Wallace, chairman of CH2M Hill who will speak about the business case for sustainable development.
Other speakers on the subject of sustainability are Wayne Bowes, president of FIDIC, the international association of consulting engineers, Kevin Hydes, P.Eng., of Keen Engineering, Ken Cameron from City Planning in the Greater Vancouver Regional District and Paul J. Bedford, Chief Planner of the City of Toronto.
Tim Foster, executive director of RedR International of Geneva, Switzerland will talk about his international organization of volunteer engineers for disaster relief. ACEC recently established a Canadian chapter of RedR.
Andrew Steeves, P.Eng. of the ADI Group in Fredericton, New Brunswick is expected to be elected the new Chair of ACEC at the annual meeting on Tuesday, June 19.
