Convergent deploys electricity storage systems at Shell facilities in Ontario

Electricity storage system developer Convergent Energy + Power has formed a joint venture with Shell Canada Energy to deploy industrial battery storage at select Shell facilities in Ontario.
Starting with 21 MWh of capacity in Sarnia and Brockville, Ont., the two companies intend to offer the technology as a service to Shell’s large commercial and industrial customers across the province, so they can lower energy costs by reducing consumption of electricity during grid peak periods.
Convergent claims its Peak IQ dispatch algorithm is 25% more accurate than public market forecasts at predicting such peaks and promises to save customers up to 40% on their bills.
“They have a strong track record of delivering savings to large industrial customers,” says Eric Bradley, Shell’s global general manager (GM) of connected energy. “This offering complements the suite of energy efficiency and energy management solutions we already provide.”
The Sarnia and Brockville installations began construction earlier this year. Through their new partnership, Convergent and Shell also plan to collaborate on future projects.
