Buckland and Taylor of Vancouver has been contracted with HDR architects and engineers to design a signature bridge over the St. Croix River between Oak Park Heights, Minnesota and St. Joseph, Wisconsin. While the entire crossing is over 5,000 feet long, Buckland and Taylor will be responsible for the design of the 3,460-ft main bridge. It will be an extradosed design, which provides a lower tower height than a typical cable-stayed structure.

R.V. Anderson Associates of Toronto has created a joint venture with firms in Japan and India to pursue projects funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency. The agency provides support for infrastructure projects to improve the quality of life in India. R.V. Anderson currently has a $1-billion wastewater treatment project in Mumbai. Original Engineering Consultants of Tokyo and PHE Consultants of Mumbai are the firms in the joint venture with R.V. Anderson.

CH2M HILL in partnership with the Singapore Public Utilities Board is doing a study and preliminary design for a plant in Delhi, India that will recycle and reuse water. The goal is for the Coronation Pillar Water Reclamation Plant to provide 3 to 4 million people in Delhi with potable water.

EM&I Stantec and EM&I Maritime are in partnership with Inversa Systems to develop diagnostic inspection equipment for the oil and gas industry. Inversa’s Backscatter Computed Tomography (BCT) helps identify corrosion issues inside a pipe or vessel without removing insulation. To date, Inversa and EM&I Stantec have invested over $3 million on developing the BCT system, which uses the diagnostic capabilities of medical computed tomography.

Hatch has obtained a Class A engineering licence for metal works from the Chinese government. The designation means that Hatch’s offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang can undertake a variety of work including EPCM and project management, feasibility studies, basic and detail engineering, and procurement services.

Hatch is the first 100% foreign engineering company to receive a Class A metallurgical industry design licence in China.

CH2M HILL has formed a strategic alliance with Britain’s Network Rail to create a consulting company focused on providing services internationally. Network Rail Consulting is a subsidiary of Network Rail, the private company that owns and operates Britain’s railway infrastructure. As consultants they will pursue work in the U.S. and countries such as India which have systems that need modernizing.
