
CEO hosts 17th annual Awards Gala

The top prize of evening, the Willis Chipman Award, was presented to John G. Cooke and Associates for the Government Conference Centre rehabilitation project in Ottawa.

Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) hosted its 17th annual Ontario Consulting Engineering Awards (OCEA) Gala at Copper Creek Golf Club in Kleinburg, Ont. on Friday, April 26th.
The top prize of evening, the Willis Chipman Award, was presented to John G. Cooke and Associates for the Government Conference Centre rehabilitation project in Ottawa. This federal government building restoration started in 2014 and included a seismic upgrade, a new east addition, excavation, underpinning and new floor plates. All of this was required of the 1912 structure while maintaining the integrity of its heritage. The building will serve as the temporary home of the Senate.
Ten other awards were presented over the course of the evening.
Awards of Excellence were presented to firms based on company size.
1-50 employees: AIA Engineers, Highway 407 East Extension Phase 2A
51-100 employees: Blackwell, Schulich School of Business Expansion (York University)
101-350 employees: Parsons, Fountain Street/Grand River Bridge Superstructure Replacement
351+ employees: Hatch, Oxec II Hydroelectric Project (Guatemala)
Awards of Merit were presented in project categories:
Building Engineering & Science: Adjeleian Allen Rubeli Ltd., Algonquin College DARE District
Environment: Robinson Consultants, Northwest Arm Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation
Project Management: DST Consulting Engineers, New Gold Rainy River Mine Development
Studies & Research: Stantec for First Nations Infrastructure Resilience Toolkit & Pilot Projects
Transit: AECOM, Dundas Connects – Dundas Street Corridor Master Plan (Mississauga)
Transportation Structural: WSP, F.G. Gardiner Expressway Lower Simcoe Street (York – Bay – Yonge) Off Ramp
A new People’s Choice award was presented to Robinson Consultants for the Northwest Arm Trunk sewer rehabilitation project.
