The region of Peel west of Toronto has assigned Earth Tech consulting engineers to design the expansion of its wastewater treatment plant. Peel is the second largest municipality in Ontario and has one million residents.
The plant is being expanded from being able to process 43 million gallons a day (163,5000 cubic metres) to 53 million gallons a day (200,000 cubic metres). Its design flow is also being upgraded to ensure a “nitrified non-toxic effluent.” Work is expected to be completed in the summer of 2006 at a cost of around US $9 million.
Earth Tech engineers will be responsible for design, site supervision, contract administration, commissioning and post construction support.
The Region of Peel encompasses Mississauga and Brampton, two of the fastest growing cities in the Greater Toronto region.
Earth Tech is now part of Tyco Engineered Products and Services in the U.S., but its Canadian branch grew from the acquisition of several former longstanding consulting engineering firms, including Proctor & Redfern of Toronto.
