Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Joe Oliver, announced last week that the federal government will invest $78 million over the next two years in the energy sector.
Labelled “ecoENERGY Efficiency” initiatives, the funds were introduced as part of the next phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The initiatives will include energy efficiency incentives for housing and buildings.
The press release specifically said that the funds will help establish a more stringent National Energy Code for Buildings. They will also be used for implementing new energy management system standards for industrial facilities.
The government is also promoting the ENERGY STAR program for energy efficient equipment.
