IPEX, which manufactures plastic pipes and fittings, has opened a $30-million-plus centre for advanced research in Mississauga, Ont., to serve as a collaborative hub for innovation and research and development (R&D).
Spanning more than 53,000 sf, the dedicated facility—which opened in early April—will reinforce IPEX’s manufacturing operations across North America, serving customers across commercial, industrial, municipal and residential sectors. It is located at 6760 Campobello Road.
The building features a mix of operational space for developing and testing new products and material formulations, office space, training and collaboration areas, where customers can co-create products. IPEX plans to use 3-D printing and artificial intelligence (AI) to further streamline product development at the centre.
“Our new innovation hub is a significant investment in our ability to develop high-quality, safe and easy-to-install products,” says Alex Mestres, CEO at IPEX.
“Our government will keep working to ensure the right conditions are in place for companies like IPEX to thrive and expand right here in Ontario,” said Doug Ford, the province’s premier, who was on hand for the grand opening announcement.
