FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (the acronym represents the French version of the name) represents the international business interests of firms belonging to national Member Associations of engineering-based consulting companies
Founded in 1913, FIDIC membership today numbers 65 Member Associations representing some 560,000 professionals. FIDIC’s members are generally national Member Associations. Companies and organizations may join FIDIC as Affiliate or Sustaining Members if their country either has no national Member Association or they do not qualify to belong to the national association and yet have interests related to FIDIC’s. Individuals do not belong to FIDIC, except as national Correspondents in countries that do not have a national Member Association. Correspondents are charged with helping to establish a national association.
The FIDIC Bookshop publishes international contracts and agreements, organizes the industry’s premier international conference, arranges seminars and other events published in a Diary, coordinates activities worldwide through regions, liaises with the international lending agencies, strives to maintain high ethical and professional standards, works to strengthen the consulting industry in developing countries, and aims to provide resources for international business.
In addition to producing publications to promote the consulting engineering industry’s business practice in areas such as international contracts and agreements, business integrity management, quality management, environment management and risk management, FIDIC actively promotes the development of the industry through task forces on sustainable development and capacity building.
FIDIC is governed by a nine-member Executive Council elected by the Member Associations. The current President is Mr. Eigil Pederson of Denmark. The other members of the Executive are:
Touradj Amirsoleymani, United Kingdom
John Boyd, Canada
J. Padilla Diaz, Mexico
Yumio Ishii, Japan
