Lightfair International 2002 was held in San Francisco in June, with a record attendance of over 14,000 architects, engineers and others lighting specialists.
The following are highlights from the New Product Showcase Awards.
Best New Product of the Year
The Lumiere Monaco 2002 outdoor luminaire
Made by Lumiere, now owned by Cooper Lighting, the Monaco landscaping luminaire is a compact tubular lamp giving colour-corrected metal halide illumination and an adjustable beam spread. It is cited as “the smallest, most flexible and durable outdoor luminaire.”
Design excellence award and best of category for suspended indirect and bi-directional pendants
Lightedge by Peerless Lighting
This is an anodized, extruded aluminum luminaire that has various profiles. It has twin edges along the fixture and dramatic sweeping corners.
Technical innovation award and best of category for components
Accessmount by Accessmount
A two-piece, quick-release fixture mounting system that can be used without rewiring. Has magnets for placement and clips for securing a weight of up to 15 pounds. Concentric rings give electrical contact at any orientation.
Energy award and best of category for exit signs and emergency lighting
Occusmart-Voyager Series by Lamar Lighting
Has an internal ultra-sonic motion sensor controlling a bi-level ballast to provide a 10% standby light level. It uses only 13 watts for two F32T8 lamps.
Roeder Award
iColor Accent by Colour Kinetics
Combining intelligent digital control with LED technology, the indoor/outdoor linear light produces intricate colour and effects. Comes in multiple lengths that can be controlled in one-foot intervals.
Judges’ Citations
The TaskRite line of Dali compatible controls by Starfield Controls. They have a snap together wiring systems and ability to have multi-station dimming and scene programming (controls category).
The expansion of the PCA DSI/DALI system by Tridonic to include fluorescent digital ballasts that have 100% to 3% dimming and universal input voltage (system category).
