Malls of the future? A new store in Birmingham, England is being hailed as the "future shape of retail." Designed by Arup Associates engineers and Future Systems, the windowless Selfridge's store bursts over the city with its bulging, animal-like form. The sprayed concrete skin is covered in insulation and plaster, and studded with 15,000 anodized aluminum discs. An article in the Times newspaper called it "the first cathedral of junkspace."
