Mobile Computer
CRA selected mobile computers manufactured by Symbol Technologies. The computer runs Windows Mobile 2003 software for the Pocket PC operating system, provides a numeric keyboard and barcode scanner. The e:Monitor software was developed using Visual Studio.NET 2003 and a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition database.
Corporate Database
Monitoring data is uploaded and/or synchronized with a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database maintained in CRA’s secure internet-hosting facility.
Method of Synchronization/Data Upload
Field data collectors upload their field data to the central database from any laptop or personal computer with an internet connection. The standard configuration for field staff includes a laptop computer with dial-in access supported for eMail. Field data synchronization using this configuration typically requires one to two minutes.
Data Access
CRA office professionals have access to field data as soon as it is synchronized with the database. Access is provided using e:DAT Web, a web-based GIS program, or e:Monitor Desktop, a new software application developed by CRA.
