– Canada West Foundation released its report “On Tap: Urban Water Issues in Canada” in August. The report explores how urban centres affect water availability in Canada, and the role of municipal governments in shaping water policy.
The report also points out that water supplies face increasing stresses and degraded quality.

– Canadian Standards Association is establishing a new technical committee to develop standards for drinking water treatment units. Made up of industry and government representatives and with assistance from the Canadian Water Quality Association, the committee is expected to take up to two years to write the standard.

– The Ontario Water Works Association is seeking nominations for its annual awards by December 31, 2003. Awards presented include the Norman J. Howard Proficiency Award that recognizes proficiency in municipal water supply, the George Warren Fuller Award that recognizes distinguished serve to the water supply field, and Water Efficiency Awards that recognize public and private sector programs that have been developed and implemented.
