The Ontario government is creating a new provincial agency to manage its major public infrastructure projects.

The Ontario government is creating a new provincial agency to manage its major public infrastructure projects.
The new agency – the Ontario Infrastructure Projects Corporation – will be an independent agency reporting to the Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal. Its mandate will be to provide expertise and best business practices for all areas of infrastructure planning, financing, construction and management.
The focus will be on “Alternative Financing and Procurement” (AFP) projects said David Caplan, the Public Infrastructure Renewal Minister. Though they did not explicitly say they will be using more public-private-partnerships, it’s clear the government is expecting to be using more private investments to build and improve our badly deteriorated roads, sewers, etc.
In making the announcement early in May, Caplan said: “To truly tackle Ontario’s infrastructure deficit, we need more capital on the table.”
