Montreal has been chosen to hold the next World Energy Congress, to be held September 12-16, 2010.
The congress is held by the World Energy Council every three years. More than 3,500 delegates are expected from around the world.
The World Energy Council is a United Nations-accredited non-governmental organization with members in 100 countries. Its mission is “to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people in a framework of peaceful, sustainable economic development.” The last time Montreal held the congress was in 1989.
Richard Drouin, chair of the Montreal 2010 organizing committee, said “Canada is a key player on the world energy scene. The organizing committee of the 21st World Energy Congress is already at work, and is mobilizing all its partners to make this event a success.”
