Engineering consulting firm Golder Associates has initiated its own in-house Sustainability Awards. The awards are meant to encourage employees and their clients to follow sustainability goals.
The competition, carried out on a global basis, had two components. One is the award for “Sustainable Office.” This was given for Golder offices that minimized their environmental footprint or made a contribution to their community. The winners were Golder’s offices in Melbourne and Adelaide, Australia, in Turin, Italy, and in London, U.K.
The second component in the awards was for a Sustainable Project. This was to demonstrate how sustainability and innovation have been embedded into a project. One award went to Golder’s Montreal office for its computer-based tool for determining the sustainability of various methods of remediating property that has been impacted by previous industrial use. The other was for a project in New Mexico.Part of each prize was a $1,000 donation to be made to Golder’s in-house charity, the Golder Trust for Orphans, which helps children who have been affected by HIV or AIDS in Africa.
