Golder Associates is contributing to a scholarship fund set up in the memory of a former employee, Brian Eckel.
Eckel tragically died in a boating accident on Chitek Lake, north of Saskatoon last spring. He was fishing in a canoe and it capsized. A well known engineer and geologist in Saskatchewan and throughout Canada, Eckel was past president of Consulting Engineers Saskatchewan in 1994, and immediate past president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
The Brian Eckel Memorial scholarship has been established at the University of Saskatchewan and will likely be given to a student in the Department of Civil Engineering. Contributions from other firms and individuals are also invited and could be addressed via Consulting Engineers of Saskatchewan (e-mail ces@sk.sympatico.ca).
Eckel had been employed at Golder for only six months before his death. Before that he worked for 20 years with P. Machibroda Engineering of Saskatoon.
