The federal government allocated $3 billion to infrastructure and environmental projects in its budget delivered in December. While Finance Minister Paul Martin gave few details, he announced that they would create a Strategic Infrastructure Foundation, with $2 billion to spend on large projects. They also plan to spend $680 million on affordable housing, will double funding to the Green Municipal Enabling Fund and Green Municipal Investment Fund (programs to support environmentally supportable building projects), and will enhance incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy.
