The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is asking for public comment on a revised standard for retrofitting existing buildings for energy efficiency. The ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 100-2006 was first published in 1981.

ASHRAE points out the importance of renovations and retrofits in reducing our energy demands since they count by far for most construction activity. ASHRAE says 86% of construction dollars are invested in renovating existing building stock, and only 2% of construction projects are for new buildings.

The standard is open for an advisory public review until May 25, 2011.  Click here.
