Windsor company hopes to build at border crossing

A company in Windsor has begun testing high-resolution cameras at one of the main cross-border routes between the U.S. and Canada. The goal is to improve traffic flows, but also security: to watch that vehicles don’t deviate from their assigned routes.
Border Gateways’ test camera is operating on the primary artery leading to the Ambassador Bridge. The company also says cameras will be deployed on two other Windsor area crossings: the Windsor-Detroit tunnel and the Detroit-Windsor Truck Ferry.
The company submitted its proposal to the Canada-Ontario Joint Management Committee in November. The company is proposing to build and staff a commercial vehicle processing and traffic control centre on the outskirts of Windsor. It “has an option” on 150 acres outside the city within 25 kilometers of the three crossings.
