Stantec has promoted Matt Travers to executive vice-president (EVP) of water for the firm’s North American operations. He succeeds Ryan Roberts, who after leading the business for three years is taking on a global position as chief practice officer.
Travers has more than 30 years’ experience, focusing on wastewater, combined sewer overflows control and wet weather projects. After earning his M.Sc. in environmental and water resources engineering, he joined Montgomery Watson as a project manager. Following a two-year stint with Parsons as municipal services department manager, he again served Montgomery Watson—by then renamed MWH—as principal, client account manager, vice-president (VP) and regional operations manager.
Stantec acquired MWH in 2016. Travers rose to senior VP (SVP), director of water delivery and major projects for North America and, in 2022, business operations unit (BOU) leader.
“Matt has been an integral part of our leadership team over the past three years and I’m proud to see him step into this role,” says Roberts. “Together, the water team has built a vision for the future of our business. I’m confident Matt’s leadership will bring growth and performance through 2025 and beyond.”
Stantec’s water business has grown to encompass more than 5,800 professionals in 14 countries, accounting for 21% of the firm’s revenue and achieving double-digit growth in its latest fourth-quarter (Q4) earnings report.
