The lineup of communicating peripherals for Carrier’s i-Vu building automation system (BAS) has expanded to include smart valves with characterized control valve (CCV) technology and smart damper actuators.

The devices—which became available for order in Canada yesterday—are designed to help building operators improve the efficiency of their heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) technology and, consequently, comfort for occupants. They work with both Carrier and non-Carrier equipment.

The new smart actuators can connect directly to the actuator sub-network (Act Net) bus on any enabled i-Vu controller, enabling valve and damper position management via serial commands, without physical input/output (I/O). They also support analogue 2 to 10-V connections.

Up to eight smart devices can be connected to the Act Net bus on each controller, helping to reduce installation time.  With a new intelligent selection tool, users can define an application, choose a valve size and specify the valve flow coefficient (Cv).

Operators receive automatic alerts if a valve or damper fails, gets stuck or shows signs of cycling or leakage, ensuring timely and efficient maintenance.
