In February, 110 delegates from the U.S. and Canada converged on the University of British Columbia for a series of workshops on “Performance Based Design for Fire Safety.” The event was held with the National Research Council of Canada in partnership with Maplesoft Development and Global Window. It included sessions on smoke movement in atria, risk performance based regulations and fire dynamics (www.global-window.com). A similar event is planned for Toronto in October. Pictured above are speakers and delegates at the UBC event (l. to r.) Charles Scawthorn, Andrew Harmsworth, Russell Thomas and John Robertson.
