Global consulting engineering firm Egis, with 20,500 employees in more than 100 countries, has appointed Alaa AbuSiam regional CEO for the Americas, with an emphasis on the Canadian market.

AbuSiam holds a B.Sc. in electrical engineering, an executive MBA and certifications in project management, digital transformation, leadership and innovation. After 19 years at Weatherford, he joined Egis in 2020 as chief operating officer (COO) for the Middle East and became CEO for the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) in 2021, helping solidify the firm’s position in the industry by leading the acquisition and integration of six major firms.

Egis expanded to Canada and the U.S. with its 2023 acquisition of McIntosh Perry and BLN. Now, as part of a broader reorganization, the firm has split that region out of what was previously Americas Pacific (AMPAC).

“This change puts greater emphasis on our growth plans for the Americas in general and Canada in particular,” explains Egis CEO Laurent Germain. “With Alaa’s appointment, we are well set up to move forward. He has the experience and knowledge to achieve our objectives, having achieved significant results in the Middle East. We are on similar trajectory in Canada.”

“I look forward to this new challenge, driving growth, delivering impact and building strong partnerships across North and South America,” says AbuSiam. “We aim to invest more than $800 million on acquisitions in the region, reach $1.1 billion in sales by 2028, support local projects and enhance job creation.”

Egis has also promoted former AMPAC CEO James Chopty to a newly created role as group COO, with a focus on operational efficiency and financial performance.
