SNC-Lavalin secures $663M deal for Ottawa LRT extension

When factored to include the long-term cost to maintain and rehabilitate both the existing Trillium Line and its new extension, the total project is valued at $1.6 billion.

SNC-Lavalin’s wholly-owned subsidiary TransitNEXT reached a financial close on the Trillium Line Extension project with the City of Ottawa, securing a fixed-price contract worth $663 million. As part of the deal, SNC-Lavalin is providing $136 million in an upfront private deferred contribution.

The SNC-Lavalin team will design, build, finance and maintain the new extension, and will also assume responsibility for the long-term maintenance of the existing Trillium Line.

Site preparations are set to begin this spring and construction is slated to be complete in 2022.

Approximately 12km of single and double track will be built, extending the Trillium Line south and west, as well as a 4km Airport Link.

The project also includes:

  • Construction of two new stations on the existing Trillium Line.
  • Four new stations along the extension.
  • Two new stations along the new Airport link.
  • Seven new Stadler vehicles and overhauling six existing Alstom trains.
  • Construction of a new Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF).
  • Extension of five station platforms on the existing Trillium line to accommodate longer trains.
  • Delivery of new municipal infrastructure, including two new pedestrian bridges.
  • Maintenance of the entire system for 27 years.
