At the Montreal-Trudeau Airport, a large new U.S. departures area opened officially on August 19. Representing the last major step in the airport’s transformation, the new hall has a glass facade protected by a canopy, and a hotel above, which is still to open.

The departures hall has a floor area of more than 18,000 square metres, and accommodates 58 check-in desks, and 48 self-serve kiosks. There is also a new automated baggage handling system on the lower level that is one of the most sophisticated in the world. Aeroports de Montreal, the local airport authority, oversaw the project.

Civil engineers were Dessau, Dessau and BPR were mechanical-electrical engineers, and SNC-Lavalin/NCK were structural engineers. The project manager is ADM and the architects were Cardinal-Hardy and Jodoin Lamarre Pratt.
