Releasing his annual fall update on Tuesday, October 12, federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty stressed that the government was intent on balancing its books and announced no new spending programs.
A few days earlier in Ottawa, according to Canadian Press reports, Flaherty had said that the government had no intention to extend the economic stimulus program for a second round.
The federal deficit is forecast to be over $100 billion for the two years ending 2010-11, and Flaherty has said it will take five years to balance the books.
