The Calgary West LRT Line has won the 2014 National Award for an Engineering Project or Achievement from Engineers Canada. Dave Weatherby, P.Eng. accepted the award on behalf of SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific) Ltd. at a ceremony in Saint John, New Brunswick in May.

SNC-Lavalin was the design-build contractor for the project.

Hatch Mott MacDonald won a Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence in 2013 for the same project. They were the owner’s engineer and won in the project management category. Click here.

Other awards handed out at the Engineers Canada Awards on May 23 include the presentation of an award for Support of Women in the Engineering Profession, which went to Sarah L.F. Devereaux, P.Eng. of Dillon Consulting in Halifax.

Michael V. Sefton, P.Eng., of the University of Toronto won the Gold Medal for his groundbreaking work in tissue engineering.

Mike Branch, P.Eng. of Inovex, a software development company in Oakville, Ontario, won the Young Engineer Achievement award. Claudio Arata, P.Eng. of Sonoro Energy in Vancouver won a Service Award – Professional Service. Timothy J. Cartmell, P.Eng., president of Lemta Projects, won a Service Award – Community Service, and Dr. Suzanne Kresta, P.Eng. of the University of Alberta won a Medal for Distinction in Engineering Education.
