Structal-Bridges Lands Five Major Contracts in Canada and the United States

(SAINT-GEORGES, QC) – Structal-Bridges, a division of Canam Group Inc. (TSX: CAM), has been awarded five contracts totaling close to $33M for the rehabilitation or replacement of highway infrastructures in Canada and the United States.
Structal-Bridges will fabricate 1,300 tons of steel components for the rehabilitation of the Highway 21 southbound viaduct and two access ramps in Newark, New Jersey. The Point of Rocks plant in Maryland has been mandated to fabricate the 48 box girders that are scheduled to be delivered between December 2013 and June 2014.
Also in New Jersey, the business unit obtained a contract to supply 3,100 tons of components for the rehabilitation of the Pulaski Skyway, a 3.5-mile (5.6 km) bridge that connects Jersey City, Kearny and Newark. Deliveries for this contract, which includes the fabrication of more than 2,500 girders at the Point of Rocks plant, are slated to begin in March 2014.
Turcot Interchange
Structal-Bridges will supply over 760 tons of components that will be used in one of several reconstruction phases planned for the Turcot Interchange in Montreal, Quebec. The components will serve to build the replacement ramp between Highway 15 and Highway 20 West over the future rail corridor as well as an overpass on Highway 15. Fabrication will take place at the Quebec City plant and deliveries will begin in autumn 2013. Structal-Bridges will also supply Goodco Z-Tech structural bearings and expansion joints for this project.
Temporary bypass bridge
The division also landed a contract to fabricate 2,300 tons of steel components for the construction of a temporary bypass bridge that’s included in the project to replace the Nuns’ Island Bridge, Montreal’s gateway to the Champlain Bridge. Fabrication and deliveries will begin in autumn 2013 and spring 2014 respectively. The business unit will equally supply Goodco Z-Tech structural bearings and expansion joints.
Cable-stayed bridge in Ontario
Structal-Bridges will fabricate 2,000 tons of steel components for the first cable-stayed bridge ever built in the province of Ontario. Components for the Nipigon River Bridge, which will run parallel to the Highway 11/17 corridor in Thunder Bay, will be fabricated at the Quebec City and Laval plants between December 2013 and the end of 2014 while deliveries will begin during the second quarter of 2014. Structal-Bridges has also been mandated to oversee the entire installation of the bridge, including the prefabricated concrete slabs.
