NWS Construction receives contract for Carmon Creek heavy oil projectEngineering
Edmonton (Alberta) – August 27, 2014 – Edmonton-based NWS Construction (NWS) and Manitoba-based BEHLEN Industries LP (BEHLEN) are partnering to provide 31 pre-engineered buildings and related works for Shell Canada’s Carmon Creek oil project under construction near Peace River, Alberta.
“NWS Construction is one of the largest metal building contractors in Western Canada,” said Shilling Buck, vice president operations manager with NWS. “This project for Shell Canada will be one of the largest in our history. It is a win for our company and for the industry as a whole and we are happy to be partnering with BEHLEN on this project.”
All buildings will be manufactured in BEHLEN’s plant in Brandon, Manitoba and shipped to the construction site.
The Carmon Creek project will produce about 80,000 barrels of oil per day. The heavy industrial buildings required for the site will need to be built stronger than a typical industrial building, created with reinforced steel and suitable to house heavy equipment. BEHLEN’s building system will allow the structures to meet the strength requirement while keeping wide open interiors without columns, perfect to house large equipment.
“This is a huge job, which will keep our plant working at full capacity for many months,” said Dwayne Schaus, sales & marketing director at BEHLEN. “That means more work for BEHLEN employees and more jobs during the winter when we’re typically slow.”
NWS Construction was founded in 1978 and is based in Edmonton, Alberta. It is one of the largest metal building contractors in Western Canada and specializes in pre-engineered buildings, metal cladding and decking. In addition to metal building construction, the company also operates an industrial coating / painting division and civil division. NWS strives to provide the best possible service to its clients while meeting the highest standards in the industry with an outstanding work ethic and enforcement of stringent safety guidelines. It works to provide efficient management of all projects, providing quality field and administrative services.
Over the past 40 years, BEHLEN Industries LP has grown to be the largest manufacturer of steel building systems in Canada. It now serves customers worldwide through a growing network of authorized builders and continues to earn a reputation as a global leader.
