New Concealed Residential Sidewall Sprinkler Offers

Larger Coverage Areas and Lower Pressure Requirements
Hastings, Michigan, USA – The Viking Corporation, a global leader in fire protection and life safety systems, has introduced a new 5.8 (84) K-factor flat plate concealed, horizontal sidewall sprinkler for residential applications. The new Model VK490 is cULus Listed for coverage areas as large as 16 x 20 ft (4,9 x 6,1 m). And, with its larger K-factor, the new sprinkler may allow for lower starting pressures in many residential systems, particularly those requiring a design density of 0.1 GPM/ft2.
The VK490 features a flat cover plate and is well-suited for residential applications where a concealed appearance is desired. With a takeout dimension of less than two inches, the sprinkler can also be installed in a standard 2” x 4″ wall space. Additionally, the new VK490 sprinkler is cULus Listed to be installed with the deflector located between four and twelve inches (102 – 305 mm) below the ceiling.
The new sprinkler is one of four in Viking’s Freedom® residential line with a 5.8 (84) K-factor, joining the VK472 pendent, VK474 flat concealed pendent, and VK460 horizontal sidewall sprinklers. The new Model VK490 is offered in addition to the existing Freedom® Model VK480, 4.0 (58) K-factor, residential concealed sidewall sprinkler, which also features a flat cover plate.
The new VK490 is available in 165°F (74°C) and 205°F (96°C) temperature ratings and features a ½ in (15 mm) NPT thread size. The sprinkler also comes standard with the special ¾ inch (20 mm) pipe guide to ensure the sprinkler is located the correct distance from the face of the finished wall.
